Amateur Radio isn't just a toy.
Too many people who don't understand or only see "Amateur Radio" as an expensive hobby or rather a toy like"CB" radios or the "FRS/GMRS" radios.
Often it isn't really understood until an emergency happens. For example "9/11 The Twin Towers", "Tsunami in Indonesia", Hurricane Katrina", and "Earthquake in China." Then you might hear a little bit about it on the news. However it is much more than a toy or a hobby.
The term "Amateur" in this case is anything but amateur. Its a world wide community lending expertise and skills to an extremely large venue of topics ranging from using morse code to creating new electronics for the use in tomorrows world of communications.
